As a school that highly values skills in Business and Enterprise, we are keen to promote enterprise throughout the curriculum.
The link between being enterprising and being a successful and effective learner is clear. It is increasingly recognised that schools have a responsibility to prepare their students for life outside of the classroom. To help our students achieve their full potential throughout their future lives, it is essential that we promote a range of transferable skills, which will be invaluable to further studies as well as career progression.
Employers and Colleges/Universities are becoming increasingly passionate about the need for students to be good communicators, have a positive attitude, work well in teams, solve problems in a creative way, lead, manage and organise themselves, reflect and be independent.
With this in mind we identified 8 key ‘Grange Enterprise Learning Skills’ (GELS).
- Can do attitude
- Communication
- Creativity
- Independence
- Leadership
- Reflectiveness
- Self-Management
- Teamworking
Our aim is to promote GELS across all subjects and through extra-curricular activities and opportunities. By the time a student leaves The Grange School, we would like them to have developed these skills and be able to utilise them in their future endeavours.
All Key Stage 3 students have enterprise lessons every 2 weeks. In Year 7, students are taught the skills and have the chance to work on the various aspects of each one. In Years 8 and 9, students will learn about a range of enterprise and employability topics and continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of the GELS.
Each individual GELS contains 6 specific elements which are called deeper GELS. These are more detailed and explore the full range of elements needed to master the individual skill.
