Our cross-curricular projects encourage students to apply skills across all subject areas.

We currently have three reading and literacy initiatives in school:

DEAR Time (Drop Everything And Read) gives students the opportunity to read every single day.  It is time set aside during the school day dedicated to reading.

Pupils respond to this really well and it ensures that each week all pupils will have read for at least 50 minutes.  This will ultimately have a massive impact on their learning in all subjects across the curriculum.  Parents can help support this initiative by encouraging pupils to have a book with them every day and by reading with them at home.

Our Good Reads initiative aims to encourage, engage and enthuse our students into the world of fiction and imagination.  Each week we select a recommended book from a broad range of genres, making sure there is something that appeals to everyone.  Reading is proven to be strongly linked with improving many aspects of literacy and we are already seeing the positive impact of this initiative within school.

Word of the Week is a cross curricular initiative to further engage our students with vocabulary. Each week we select a word that students may not have come across in their everyday conversations. Often these words have an academic link with subjects. The aim of the project is for students to increase their vocabulary, enabling them to articulate themselves expressively, both in conversations and in writing, thus enriching their overall literacy skills.
