At The Grange School, we believe that assemblies are fundamental in promoting the ethos of the school and providing students with an opportunity for collective reflection and the consideration of spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues.

Our assemblies take into account local, national and global issues that are topical and student awareness is essential to their personal and collective safety or their role as local or global citizens. They provide an opportunity to share community values and success and regularly include awards and recognition for individuals and teams.

Year Group assemblies enable students to develop self-respect and self-discipline, as well as encouraging students to strive for knowledge, understanding and achievement. They develop our community culture at The Grange School with an underpinning message of WE CAN. They are held once a week, on the following days:

Monday – Year 7

Tuesday – Year 8

Wednesday – Year 9

Thursday – Year 10

Friday – Year 11.

In their first half term, Year 7 students have two assemblies per week to embed ‘how we do things around here’ in order to learn the routines of their new school.

Assemblies begin with a look at the school and national diaries, the curriculum and pastoral foci, opportunities to be involved in that week e.g. student voice surveys as well as a weekly brain-teaser – something our students asked for.

Assemblies are led by members of staff within school as well as outside speakers throughout the year, excluding examination periods.

At times, students also actively participate in planning and delivering assemblies.

Our assemblies provide a productive start to the school day.
