The computing and ICT curriculum fits with our whole school aims because the subject is a fundamental part of all young people’s education. It will support the development of problem-solving skills; the ability to research and work in collaboration and to communicate. These are vital in being able to thrive in modern society. The knowledge and skills developed within this curriculum enables all students across the entire curriculum.
The curriculum at The Grange School is focused on the following principles:
- Being a responsible digital citizen. Students are given the knowledge and skills to approach the digital world in a responsible and safe manner. Education and guidance with regard to consideration for others, safety and privacy.
- Technical competency and confidence. Students should be confident in the use of all common computer applications. They should develop the skills to be able to create documents and products for a specific purpose and audience. Students should gain confidence to be able to use unfamiliar products without instruction and to develop their own skills independently. They should have the confidence to use these tools in effective problem solving.
- The impact of the use of information technology. Students should develop an understanding of the use of information technology within modern society and be able to communicate effectively and safely. They should also have an understanding of the impact of the technical devices and the data stored on them upon the planet.
- The use of reliable information and data. Student should develop an understanding of the use of digital information and to be able to search for and use reliable sources.
