Applications are now open for The Model United Nations Project which is a fabulous opportunity for students in Year 9.
In the previous two years of running the MUN, students have enjoyed building a greater sense of community with other students around Buckinghamshire. In addition to making new friends, students build their leadership skills through group collaboration to solve problems and complete objectives. Students also build their independence and confidence through research and debate. Grange students have been very successful over the last two years taking home several awards for both their individual and group contributions!
As part of the project, students will complete a short piece of writing detailing their country or media house’s background. Delegate students, as in, students chosen to represent a country, will also have a position paper to write which details their country’s point of view on the topic announced during our first meeting. Media house students will, instead of this writing project, be responsible for making a short video — the topic of which will be given to them during the first meeting. Finally, all students will come together for a debate in The Oculus where they will campaign, make deals, forge alliances, and argue for what they think is the best solution to a global problem. During this time, media house students will spend the day covering the news of the day: creating videos, doing interviews, posting updates, and more!
Once again, it’s set to be a very exciting project to be part of!
To apply, students are to answer two questions (a paragraph in length each). They must briefly describe a global issue and why it concerns/interests them, and they must also explain why they believe participating in the Model United Nations will benefit them. They can then hand their writing into project lead, Mr Pynn in H8 or send it to [email protected] by Friday 3 October.
Good luck with your applications! We look forward to selecting our awesome team!
