A tough challenge awaited our Year 9 boys against an unknown Burnham side, with the squad impacted by injuries and several key absences. Despite this, and with the welcome addition of Year 8 players Seb C and Joseph O, the team showed tremendous character and determination throughout.

The game started with a few decisions not falling Grange’s way. Burnham opened the scoring from a move that appeared to be offside, before Grange thought they had levelled through Liam M after an excellent through ball from Seb C, only for the goal to be ruled out. The boys refused to let their heads drop, however, and their perseverance was rewarded when Joseph O produced a superb finish over the goalkeeper to make it 1-1 at half-time.

The second half proved challenging as Burnham found their rhythm and managed to open up a gap with a flurry of goals. To their credit, the Grange boys continued to battle across the pitch and were rewarded when Inigo H found the net to keep the scoreline respectable. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough on the day, with Burnham progressing to the next round following a 5-2 victory.

While the result wasn’t what we wanted, the attitude and resilience shown by the team was outstanding. In true “We Can” spirit, the boys kept their heads high, worked hard for one another, and never stopped competing until the final whistle. There are plenty of positives to take forward, and this group should be proud of the way they represented the school.
