Every March, French speakers around the world come together to celebrate La Semaine de la Francophonie a vibrant reminder of the richness and diversity of the French language. With French spoken by 274 million people across the globe and recognised as an official language in 29 countries, it remains one of the world’s most influential languages in culture, business, international organisations, and global communication.

In Mrs Mathieu’s French classes, students have been embracing the celebration with creativity and enthusiasm:

Year 9 put their knowledge to the test with a Francophonie quiz and created beautiful windsocks inspired by French‑speaking countries. Year 7 coloured stunning Francophonie‑themed designs, exploring the colours, symbols, and cultures of the French‑speaking world. Students will be making flags for homework bringing the global Francophonie community to life in our classrooms.

French continues to be the second‑most‑studied language in the world, with over 125 million learners and 900,000 teachers worldwide. It’s also a major language of international news, diplomacy, business, and the internet proof of its lasting global impact.

What a fantastic way to celebrate language, culture, and global citizenship. Bravo to all our students for their creativity and curiosity!
