Last weekend, 49 of our Year 9 students took on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award practice walk at the stunning Dunstable Downs. An 8‑mile route that was as challenging as it was beautiful.

Working in four walking groups, students demonstrated brilliant teamwork, resilience and determination throughout the day. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another, navigating confidently and developing the key skills that sit at the heart of the DofE programme.

A huge thank you to the staff team who supported the walk and ensured everything ran smoothly: Mr Dharsey, Mr Haycock, Mr Johnson, Miss Brown, Miss McCafferty, Mrs Mathieu, Mrs Kirk, Ms Evans, Mr Walpola, Ms Samudzimu and Mr Stoimenov. Your time, encouragement and expertise make these experiences possible.

Final Training Sessions – Navigation & Route Planning

To prepare for the final expedition, students must attend one of the following after‑school sessions:

  • Wednesday 3 June 2026 – 3.15pm to 4.45pm
  • Thursday 4 June 2026 – 3.15pm to 4.45pm

These sessions will focus on essential navigation and route‑planning skills.

Final Expedition Dates

Our students will complete their assessed expedition on the weekend of Saturday 13 June and Sunday 14 June 2026.

We can’t wait to see them put all their training into action!

As a reminder, we also run a weekly after‑school support session every Tuesday in IT3 for any student needing help completing their DofE sections. Please encourage your child to attend if they have questions. We’re always happy to help.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for their effort, attitude and teamwork. They represented the school brilliantly and showed exactly what the DofE spirit is all about.
