Our Sixth Form A level Drama students were enthralled and inspired by our trip to see ‘Bacchae’, an outstanding new production based on the classical Greek play by Euripides.
This was the very first show produced by a new artistic director of the National Theatre, and the critics were there in force, alongside our own critical and expertly prepared students from The Grange.
Mrs Shelton and Mrs Gordon had expertly prepared highly engaging prep lessons, so everyone could focus on the fine details of the sparkling performance, which was simply astounding in quality and impact!
To our great surprise and delight, whilst on our pre-show tour of The National Theatre, we met one of the professional actresses, Elena Gyasi, from the actual show we were watching, Bacchae, while walking past some make-up studios. Elena smiled a hello to our group, then stopped dead in her tracks, and, turning to Mr Dawson, exclaimed: “Oh my gosh! Mr Dawson! You were my music teacher! How nice to see you!” and we all shared in a moment of real joy, as Mr Dawson had indeed taught Elena, now a pro who has been on stages across the west end and now The National Theatre, in a non-selective school in Beaconsfield, that has a very similar ethos and community, to what we enjoy here, at The Grange School.
It goes to show, for a hopeful and successful future, that when you say to yourself WE CAN and work to improve and progress, anything is possible!
