At the end of last half-term, Year 10 art students enjoyed an inspiring educational visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, exploring artefacts and anthropological collections to support their current GCSE investigations into Natural Forms and Toy/Play themes.
Students focused on collecting first-hand materials (primary sources) to strengthen their GCSE Component 1 work. A dedicated sketchbook session with a Pitt Rivers educator encouraged students to respond to the collections through feelings, materials, and creative processes, while also exploring how the collection was developed during the colonial period and how it continues to be re-evaluated and re-presented through contemporary perspectives.
Working directly from the displays, students recorded observations using pencil and pen, alongside photography, to develop their sketchbooks. This work will support Assessment Objectives 1 & 3: Developing ideas and Recording from primary sources.
A fantastic day of learning, critical thinking, and creative exploration!
