Year 8 (and staff!) were excited to welcome an Astronaut (yes a real one!) into The Grange School to speak with our Year 8 cohort this week.

This was part of both our Personal Development programme as well as an early treat ahead of British Science Week starting in school on Monday 9 March.

Chris, an American Astronaut working with NASA, spoke with our students about his training, his trip to Space and how he became an Astronaut. He shared multiple photos and videos he took himself on his 3-day trip to Space and inspired our young students to be curious about what is beyond planet Earth.

The students were able to ask Chris questions at the end of his presentation which included:

🪐How do you go to the toilet in space?

🪐Do you believe in aliens?

🪐What happens to the rocket when you land?

🪐What did your body feel like in the rocket?

🪐Did you see the moon?

🪐Where did you sleep?

🪐What was your favourite part? (A = looking back at planet Earth )

The Grange School was kindly gifted an illustration and a signed copy of ‘Vnccii’ by Samantha Tauber. This book is to be taken into space to join the library in space!

The message to our students this morning was “reach for the stars and you could land on the moon”.

An ‘out of this world’ opportunity for Year 8 this morning.

p.s. check out the student’s ‘space’themed’ hair accessory and rucksack specifically for this occasion.
