With the long-awaited return of U18 boys’ football at The Grange, there was a subtle optimism surrounding the group assembled over recent weeks. With players from the last two Year 11 cohorts boasting multiple district titles and county cup final appearances, the team looked ready to compete with anyone they faced.

Captained by Dylan B., the boys started strongly. A left-footed cross from Khamari R. found the head of Dylan to give The Grange a deserved 1-0 lead. Aside from that breakthrough, the first half was a competitive affair, with the opposition’s best chance coming after an error from Will L. Fortunately, Jack P. (Year 11) was on hand to produce an excellent save low down to preserve the lead. 1-0 at half-time.

In the second half, the substitutes made a real impact, highlighting the strength in depth of the squad. The fresh legs allowed The Grange to maintain their intensity while preventing the opposition from finding any rhythm.

Tye D., recently back from injury, showed great confidence with some skilful footwork before curling a shot into the far corner to make it 2-0, followed by a solo celebration. Soon after, Oscar W. closed down the goalkeeper and fired home his first goal of the game to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Grange were not finished there. Bryce S. announced himself in style, racing onto a through ball from Khamari R. before confidently finishing past the goalkeeper. The travelling supporters responded with loud cheers as the score moved to 4-0.

With only a few minutes remaining, Oscar W. picked the ball up outside the penalty area and lofted an excellent effort over the goalkeeper for his second goal of the match and The Grange’s fifth.

A superb team performance and a perfect start to the season, returning home with all three points and plenty of confidence for the challenges ahead.
