We were absolutely delighted with the lovely turnout at our very first Year 7 Book Club, held on Tuesday lunchtime in the library from 12.40pm – 1.00pm with the wonderful Mrs Clark. The students had a fantastic start, spending time familiarising themselves with their chosen book, Framed by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, and making thoughtful predictions about the story.
The club aims to encourage reading for fun, build confidence in conversation, and finish with an exciting character debate later in the term. To celebrate their enthusiasm and support of the school community, all students earned 3 achievement points and were gifted a special Book Club bookmark.
We also have a book club for our Year 9 and 11 students on a Tuesday lunchtime in E9 from 12.40pm – 1.00pm and for Year 8 and 10 on a Wednesday lunchtime also in E9 from 1,30pm – 2.00pm.
This feels like a brilliant way to kick off our activities for the 2026 National Year of Reading. Both the English Department and library have lots more exciting events planned throughout the academic year to promote reading and literacy… watch this space!
