Our Year 7 students have now completed their first 4 weeks at The Grange School and should be more confident with their timetables, new teachers and their new classrooms. The vast majority of students have been able to find their way around the school unaided, which is great. They are continuing to make positive start to their new school and have thrown themselves into The Grange School life. We love having them here as part of our community.

Some Updates From This Week:

Willen Lake 2023 â€“ What a packed two days! The students all returned with smiling faces and hopefully having tried something new. We are continuing to hear all their stories of their days out around the school. They looked very tired but very happy and even having met some new friends from their year half along the way. Thank you to the staff who accompanied them on their trip – we hope you enjoyed the activities too!

CATS Test, Reading & Spelling Test 2023 â€“ Year 7 students have engaged really well with these tests this week. As parents/carers, you will be able to see the results of these for your child by the end of the Autumn Term.

Parents Evenings â€“ You will soon be invited to book a 5-minute appointment with your child’s form tutor at our ‘Form Tutor Parent Evening’ on the 14 November. The Year 7 Parents Evening with all subject teachers will be 27 March 2024. Both of these parents’ evenings are face-to-face in school but appointments are made online. You will receive communication regarding how to do this nearer the time for both these events

Assemblies – Year 7 students are continuing with two assemblies per week (Monday and Friday). On Monday morning, they have an assembly in the main hall which is delivered by a member of staff from across the school on a particular theme e.g. next week, our Head of Science , Mrs Munien will be discussing science and technology news with them. On Friday morning, Mr Hains and Miss Daulton deliver an assembly on ‘the way we do things around here’ as part of the transition programme. So far, they have discussed behaviour for learning in classrooms, safeguarding and the reward system. This week, the students from the Friends against Bullying (FAB) Team will be speaking to the Year 7 about their work in the school.

Satchel One – All students and parents/carers should now be able to log on and use Satchel One. Here you can find your child’s homework, timetable, attendance, achievement points and any behaviour points. Staff often post messages about clubs and extra-curricular activities on the noticeboard too for students to be involved in so please check in with your Satchel One account daily where possible. More information about Satchel One can be found on our school website.

Fingerprints â€“ please encourage your child to let us know if they have been given permission to have their fingerprint scanned for use in the canteen but this has not been done. As far as we are aware, all children with permission have now had their fingerprints scanned and can use this to purchase food and drink from the canteen,

Weekly Parent/Carer Communication â€“ We communicate weekly with our parents/carers through our weekly parent/carer bulletin which is sent out every Friday afternoon. Please make sure you have a look at this each week. The bulletin contains links to letters that are specific to your child’s year group. Any urgent communication or information that just relates to your child specifically will be sent directly to your email address. All previous editions are archived on our website for your convenience.

Extra-Curricular Clubs – All of our clubs for the Autumn Term can now be found on our website. Our clubs are all free of charge and students are welcome to attend any time. They are already up and running. If they have any questions around the clubs, they should speak with their class teacher or form tutor.

Facebook Page – This will continue to be live until Christmas 2023 so this is still an easy form of communication for this specific year group. You can also follow the main school social media pages too by following the links to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Focus for this week for Year 7 – Punctuality! – Now our Year 7 students are becoming more familiar with their new surroundings, we will be encouraging them to be punctual to lessons, especially after break and lunchtime.

So that’s it for September, we are ready for October – Week 5, let’s go!

If you have any further questions, please do let us know via the transition email [email protected]
