On Friday 18 October we were privileged to be able to take the whole of Year 8 to the Bucks Skills Show which this year was held at The Gateway in Aylesbury.

This excellent event included 120 exhibitors and high-profile speakers across a wide variety of sectors, including creative, health and medical technology, public sector, and space. Businesses ranged from global corporations such as Johnson & Johnson and Marriott Hotels to local businesses such as Monsta
Pizza and Odds Farm Park.

Accompanied by a range of teachers, the Year 8’s went to the event by coach, with half going for a 9.00am -10.30am slot and the remaining students attending from 11.00am – 12.30pm .

The students had the opportunity to explore the range of different stands, some of which were very interactive!

We were both delighted and proud to overhear some really detailed, mature and interesting questions posed by our students which certainly impressed many of the exhibitors.

One of our students,  Oliver from 8S, kindly shares his experience of the event:

“On our educational and fun trip we learnt of the new innovative and exciting prospects for jobs in our future. We also learnt about the hard work that needs to be done now, in order to get the job that we aspire towards. An example of one of the stands was that of the NHS, who provided an insight on the modern technological advances that have led to the new method of key-hole surgery. This was performed on a dummy – a genius and informing experience! I also went to the technology stand in which we were shown
various games from many decades ago, including one of the original Mario Kart games. This experience was informative, educational and ultimately inspiring.”

What a fabulous event to inspire students about their future opportunities and career paths!
